Bayan Baru residents perfectly happy with sPICE

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 02:55 AM PDT

This is in reponse to Chan Kim Beng's letter addressed to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng on Sept 9 'Penang's sPICE project 'win win' for whom?'

We, the residents of Sunway Tunas Bayan Baru (next door to PISA) where the Subterranean Penang International Convention and Exhibition (sPICE) is to be set up, are very happy with what Lim is doing to bring about more business and economic growth for the state of Penang.

I am sure the growth that you see happening in Bayan Baru lately, is a blessing for all residents in Bayan Baru, as the prices of houses here have greatly appreciated. I am sure this also applies to your house where you represented your community.

As regards to the heavy traffic jams happening here, it has existed a long time ago with the setting up of Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) near here. There is always a price to pay for progress and development. The jams do not only happen here. It covers other parts of Penang Island as well.

If you take a drive to Gottlieb Road and up to Tanjung Tokong onwards, the traffic there is equally heavy. We are not katak dibawah tempurung as not to know what is happening in other parts of Penang Island.

I am sure you know that Lim is doing his possible best to see to this traffic problem. He has started the shuttle service for the people in mainland Penang to leave their cars behind and to come to work in FIZ by bus. This is a start. Lim needs a lot of encouragement and support from Penangites.

You seem to emphasise the lack of C.A.T. (Competency, Accountability, Transparency) by the present state government. Isn't it better to have some form of C.A.T. rather than not to have one at all from the many years under the past government?

Be thankful that C.A.T. is being promoted. How successful it is will depend on the cooperation of the people and the state government.

Please bear in mind that you do not speak or give your views collectively as you do not in any way represent us residents in Sunway Tunas Bayan Baru. We are happy that there is a park in our area - even if it is on a roof top. We want a cleaner and greener Penang.

If you're are so nosy, please spend more time to ask your Gerakan president to return the hijacked land back to the people of Penang.

We don't need your opinion and comment either, as your party had been rejected by the people of Penang. We've a brighter future with Lim and his C.A.T. system that will bring Penang to greater heights, and that includes sPICE.

Edmund Lee Leng Chooi is vice chairman od the Resident Association of Sunway Tunas Bayan Baru, Penang.

Charging Mat Sabu while worse threats slip by

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 01:13 AM PDT

It appears that Lady Justice has lost her blindfold or there is a serious warping of values in our country. The police were quick to charge PAS deputy president Mat Sabu with criminal defamation based on police reports and a government-linked newspaper - Utusan's report - on his speech in relation to a historical event.

Yet there are cases and allegations before the nation which are far more serious in terms of national security and threat to the Agong and his subjects. It is unfortuante that no investigation has been called and no response from the prime minister is forthcoming. Perhaps he is too busy with his new PR campaign of being 'cool' and playing games on radio talk shows.

The allegations hurled suggest a sinister plot and a traitor in the government. If this is true, and if ever the ISA should be used based on the lame excuse that it is for national security, then it is now. It was exposed recently that the former EC chief had arranged for over 60,000 fake ICs to be issued to foreigners.

This means that there are foreigners with questionable backgrounds and intentions roaming around as Malaysian citizens. These so called Malaysian citizens have been given the right to vote and to determine the government of Malaysia.

They have been given the same rights and priveleges as Malaysians born here. No one is saying that the news from Wikileaks is true but there must be investigations into such a serious allegation. The prime minister must come out to allay fears.

These are serious allegations questioning our sovereinty as a nation and yet I see no action from the government of the day. This is worrying and I question the ability of the BN government to ensure our safety and sovereignty. Malaysian security is at risk of being compromised. Don't fiddle about while our nation is burning!
